Why I built Twin

Twin began as a favor, and grew into a free tool anyone can keep on their own machine.

For a couple of years, friends, colleagues, and people I barely knew kept asking me the same questions. Will AI replace my job? What should I learn next, and how? Which skills actually matter now? How do I shape a career in all this noise? I answered them one conversation at a time.

After enough of those conversations, it stopped making sense to keep repeating myself. The honest answers were personal, grounded in evidence, and ongoing, the kind of thing a good coach gives you over time, not in a single reply. So I decided to build that coach, and make it something everyone could install on their own device, keep private, and use for free.

I'm a technologist by heart and profession, an architect for most of my career, so I designed and shaped Twin myself. But I didn't build it alone. My build team was AI: GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, on the Microsoft Agent Framework. In a way, Twin is its own proof, a testament that one person, leaning on the tools we have today, can design and ship a real, useful product.
